Hi there! I'm wondering if I can use miraclegro in place of a typical 'bud booster' at the week 5/6 of bloom? I'm using all organic fertilizers and want to continue as much as I can...do I really need a bud booster if using bioflores consistently throughout? Thank you
hey mark have a problem... my plants are outside in pots with promix. the problem is how do i fertilize them with out over watering them? they are overwatered already because we have recieved so much rain the pots are always soaked...

Two quick questions: #1 Where I live we get to 12 hours light Sept. 22nd, can I plant outside August 1st and get a decent yield? I don't know, it depends how cold the weather gets and when... usually this late in the season the frost will kill them, but I suppose that the weather is ok, the plants would be ok as well... #2 Have you heard or used any of these new MH bulbs that you can screw into a regular light socket? I believe it's 165 watts. Thanks... I guess they are MH but for me not enough power so I would not even try them... the theory is sound, they should work...

Just some random thoughts, maybe I am too paranoid :) I just got back from buying some used grow equipment off kijiji. Now normally I am very careful about who I buy from. This guy got me to meet in a parking lot away from his house, that was Ok cool. I picked the spot, figured he was not comfortable with me as when I call I use call blocking on my phone and only gave him my pager number as he insisted on calling me back with particulars. ( thought that was weird ) Got to talkin with him and he was peppering his talk with calling me sir one too many times. Something just did not jive. Everyone else I have bought equipment from was all wham bam thank you no small talk just hand money over and be on way stuff. Figured they were not into spilling info fro no reason ( loose lips sink ships stuff ) Anywho ,the talk started to drift from equipment he had to do I smoke , methods for growing, bill c-15 and him wondering if I had any genetics to sell. (said no good). His car looked all wrong too, rice burner with tinted windows. My gut feeling was he was po, po undercover, shaved head, no tats, and a matter of fact about him. But what keeped rolling around in my mind was his calling me SIR when we talked on the phone more than once , shit he has not seen me yet. WTF, I thought undercover had better things to do than sell to peeps grow equipment. I thought standard procedure now is to crush it all not sell it auctions like in the past. Is this a new tactic. Be carefull out there when buying used equipment, I think I may have to buy from the retailers even though there prices are more spendy. I may have been made by LEO. its sounds suspicious, but I never heard of cops doing low level shitty investigations like that... isn't there plenty of crack heads stealing our shit.. go get those..
mark i have 7 plants outside.... they are about 1 foot tall...is it too late to prune them because its after june 22??(summer solstice) you can prune the bottom branches but not the tops, they will still grow a bit but if you cut off the tops the yield will suck...

I'm 6 weeks into flower and I think I stressed the plants to hermie (i'm a noob). The buds look 'greenish' and there's balls formed on what I think are called calyxes (the little offshoots at the point where the leaf-stems meet the main stalk). I'm wondering whether to chop it preem or just wait awhile at least until next watering and flush them first? thx in advance ... flush at least twice.. stress causes them to retain nutrients so its better to flush twice.. if you just cut them without flushing, you may not be able to smoke it ...
hi um using a 400W Metal Halide for my Vegetative Stage..if i change to a 600 watt High Pressure Sodium Light when i go into bloom..would this give me more yield more then if i were to use a 400 watt metal halide for bloom.. yes of course, the additional 200W and the fact its HPS should increase yield by up to half....
hey mark....i just planted 5 seeds about 3 days ago....1 has broking out of the soil....i been keeping the light on 24-0...when should i start 18-6 hours of light any time you want... 24 hours of light is not necessary .. 18/6 is ok at all time in veg..
Hi Mark, if i start the 12 hour cycle with the first 5 days of complete darkness will this speed up the flowering process? no, some people swear by 3 days but I see no difference, and I think is .. actually .. not good for them.. I want to dry my finished plants and put the new vegged plants in the same dark room to eliminate the 1 week of down time! what do you think? why not, but keep the drying stuff from direct light thanks man.
iwas just wondering what nutrience you suggest for an ebb& flow system that is easily found (eg. miracle grow)...easily found?.. if there is no hydroponics store around then try Lee Valey's Fish Emulation... or the old stand-by for veg and for 10-30-15 for bloom.. try first at no more then 1 ml per 1 litre then up it only if necessary... but if you want no problems find a hydroponics store and get yourself A + B formula... any brand...
Hey Mark, I was wondering if i started my seeds with a fluorescents during veg and switched to 400 hps or 250 during bud, do you think that the plants will support all that bud!? yes, but you have to stake them, with some bamboo sticks or however you want to, but you will have to support the bud ..
took the liberty to call up Safer's Endall customer service line and explained in detail how I use the product, and asked a series of additional questions about the Safer's Endall brand product and what cannabis growers should know about it (like smoking buds sprayed with it, eating the plant after application, etc). much to my amazement, the woman told me that it can be used up until the day of harvest, even on buds, and that it would be safe to BOTH eat and smoke it after a few days of drying even if applied at the time of harvest. she also indicated that there would be no harmful effect of smoking it, but suggested misting or otherwise washing before harvest to remove any difference in taste. now i admit, this is coming from the company selling the product that wants to keep good image and promote their product, but figured i would pass this along here and encourage feedback or others to call in for clarity. i guess my question is, has anyone actually smoked buds that have been sprayed with endall during flower? Safer's hotline for Canada: 1-800-800-1819 it is not that you can not spray it .. sure you can.. but this is the difference between medical quality and street bud... street bud is always sprayed whenever, without consideration to taste or quality.. there may not be solid proof that end all is dangerous (when sprayed in bloom and smoked into lungs) but I try to err on the side of caution... also, medical smokers can easily tell when you spray bud in bloom, because it has a distinctive bad taste...

WTF ? Just wanted to give everyone a heads up if they have not been following Bill C-15 in the Federal legislature. It concerns a minimum manditory sentence of 6 months in jail for cultivating more than 5-201 plants regardless of size. This means a Judge can not determine your fate if you are over that limit. If you are from 1-4 plants a Judge will , depending on your circumstances, probably be more lenient. I came across it on IC Mag here http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?s=a5681e183bcbfded7336bf472690ec84&t=124871 . It is not through the Senate yet , with Parliment in recess until this September, we can only hope that it does not get through and gets sent back to the Commons for tweaking. Boy this country has really started to go the way of the USA under Herr Harper. I would urge everyone who has a stake in this to contact their local Senator and ask them to defeat this piece of crap bill. What is the best way to collect pollen from the males that i wish to cross breed with? I've thought about just putting a plastic bag over the ripe male every day or so to sort of milk it until it fail to give me anymore. Problem is how to get it out the plastic bag and onto the flowers of the entire female(s)plant and still have some left for the others? If i was just dealing with a single male and female no problems. I've chosen to try and pollinate 5 different females genetics with 4 males of the same genetics. I'll need 20 females to do this, plus lots of examples of my 4 males to do this. I've heard of brushing pollen onto selected areas with small water color brushes, but my task will be to pollinate the whole plant. Everyone reading this must think I'm bonkers for seeding out my whore house of fancy ladies. Far from it. I'll have some killer genetics for years to come. i am 3 weeks and 5 days into flower and have mad webs. was unable to tend much over last 2 weeks but now do have time. What is the best way to address this crisis at this point in flower? can i use End All no, unless you want to smoke potential poison, at this stage the hair will retain whatever you spray on them, most hydro stores have a product called bang....the only fairly natural product that wont kill them but is the next best thing to end all.... but before you do this take each plant into the bathtub and spray them with high pressure ice water (spray from below the leaf, you want to physically dislodge the mites and they live on the underside of leafs), this will wash off most mites, none of this will kill all mites so repeat the bang spray every week at this point? some other option? should i wait a bit more and cut early? what exactly can these bugs do to the bugs other than swarm them with webs? they will eat the leafs thus the plant wont be able to feed the bud thus the bud will be very fluffy thanks

hi mark...my closet is about 11-12 ft tall 2 ft deep and about 3 ft wide is this ok or is it to tall of a space.....should i put a bord about half way to block it off so it would be about 6-7 ft or is 11-12 ok? its probably better to leave it open as the heat will have more space to migrate north.. also you can position the inline fan up there, as well as the ballast (best to place the ballast outside of this space if possible but up above is 2nd best)
hey mark are all areas of the plant the same thc levels??? I am not sure, because its something that's needs to be tested, but my impression is Yes, its all the same as its the genetics that determine the THC levels....

hello i just put my seeds in a 3 gallon pots i used the toilet paper to crak open my seeds like u said.....how much water should i be using when they are seeds in the (pro-mix .. keep promix wet for a week or until you see some plant/leafs an inch or two tall... so soak it every couple of days ... once you see a real plant then soak less often and let promix dry out quite a bit (for a 3 gallon pot you should use 1.5 liters of water? or so.. test it... you want the pot be full of water enough to leak out from the bottom into a saucer, then you know its all wet) ... watering then would be once every 3 or 4 or 5 days, depending how dry your environment is...
Hey Mark, When should you start seeing signs of your outdoor plants sex in ontario. usually mid-July, a little earlier if you get very dark nights and a little later if you get rain I don't like visiting them much so i want to figure out when the best time to see them are. why are eve not able to cut a stream of water?
on the medical license forms there is a section the property landlord fills out to approve of a medical grower moving into to that residence.. How is any landlord ever going to approve of a licensed grow in his building if you were living there prior to getting your new license the landlord does not need to sign the consent forms or even know that you have a license, as this is your primary residence, in other words landlord can not legally prevent you from growing ... if you have a license and you go to a new place then you need to inform the landlord that you have the license but technically he/she still need not sign the consent forms anyways.. landlord consent forms need to be sign only when you are growing outside of your primary residence >>?? how does everyone who has license for medical weed do this ?? are people finding places where the landlord approves ?? i just find it hard to fathom. please message me soon. ...I tell the landlord at the very beginning... surprisingly they have no problems so long as its a single light, its best to pay for your own power on a separate meter... I have seen big corporate landlords freak out and they want to inspect but so long as its a true closet operation they see no danger.. if they see the whole room converted then its a problem... I agree it is not easy.. no one wants a landlord who hates your guts... its best to keep looking for the one who understands and there are plenty who understand...

the roto grow can't be tamed by an amature? how do i get training for this machine? i would lovee to master it. ..I don't know how determined you are and .. if you put your mind to it you can do anything... but from experience it takes a year or 5 crops to master a method, any kind of growing method, be it ebb&flow or promix or rotogrow (or fail and give up I guess).. but in the end I still don't recommend this system...
Hey Mark, hope everything is getting better with the law.. stressful .. but I can't talk about it don't give up we live a land where time reveals all and wrongs are amended in due time...but anyways This is my first year as a MMAR member and I was wondering does my card number change every year i renew it, or do I keep my original forever?...I never paid attention.. I would assume it stays the same.... often I carry my expired card with me and keep the new one at home, just in case cops take it (and they never give it back)..... some people keep a copy with them and the original in a safe place...
Mark ~ Thanks for the info, when you say for the most part "they" do not really have any real idea what the THC content of their genetics, and that it costs 250$ per pound to test, was that a type error? ...there is a cheaper test on the market but I forget now where... I was just trying to make a point that its expensive for a grower to have his stuff checked for THC... but I think there was other crap on my mind when I wrote ot and it came out wrong.... Why would one have to test a whole pound? Back in the mid 7o's I had a mentor that tested his males for the strongest(THC) one before breeding it to a female. This device was easy to use, tested the leaf, and gave a reading. He was the first person I met that said that super pot could be grown in the USA. That sounds funny to the younguns now, that there would be any doubts about growing killer weed. Then, pot was all Mexican regulars, it came in pressed blocks that weighted about 1 and a half pounds, wrapped in paper, then in colored plastic(The "reds" were the most desired). A "brick" costs back then(to me)about 185$ dollars US. This IS WHAT POT WAS. The THC content was no more than 3%. The Mexicans heard that US KIDS love "sweet pot", so they began pouring coke a cola over it, then pressing it. Try smoking that! In the early 80's Columbian began to trickle in. It was much much better than 90$ of the Mex(there were super strains of Mex that made it up North like Mismacan, Gerverro Gold, Wahaccan, even saw real sun dried Acapulco Gold) whose THC was around 5-7%). The Colum was costing 350 per pound, came unpressed, around 5% THC and was full of SEEDS. All pot was full of seeds then. ...until 1996 I was still getting seedy stuff My mentor told all of us it wasn't just about climate, it was about genetics, and super pot could be grown in the USA. His name was Greg, and after a trip out West, he returned with 8 SK 1 seeds acquired from someone on the High Times staff that had just returned from Holland. The rest is history. We smoked some of the very first incredible Skunk in the USA. It's THC was just over 15%(according to Greg). We grew it for 6 years and it became the benchmark in our area for what pot should be. The smell still lingers in me mind after all these years(a real Skunk has nothing on this herb) Greg died early in his life(32)from a heroin over dose. He claimed that without the Dugee, he couldn't do the massive work required for that sort of genetic lab work. Not many then knew anything about Sativa, or Indica or anything like we all understand today. He was mistaken, and paid for it with his life. Many of us walk tight ropes, some of us fall. I now grow a genetics that is totally unheard of anywhere except around here. It's called by us, "E Weed" and is a pure Indica, tastes heavy like sweet cloves and has been tested by the QPP to be over 23%. No one knows where it came from or what it's real name is, it is just here and more than a few 'claim' to have brought it to this area. The nugs are solid, dense, hard, and soaked in resins creating a big hassle to cut and thus prepare to smoke as it is so full of resins that it refuses to go easily into the paper. E Weed rules in the Montreal area and blows away all the fancy indoor pots. Just a out door genetic that came from nowhere with no name, but blows the hell out of stress and no energy. Mark, next trip this way we hook up and maybe you could id this genetic for me? We call it, "50 click pot" because it doesn't make it 50 clicks from where it's grown. It's been around for more than 10 years now. The clone producer went tits up and now, this is the last year that clones are available to us. I'll keep 6 of the clones this year and begin to produce the clones for myself AND A SELECT "CHOSEN FEW" , , , like to make you one of them Mark to repay you for all the work and time you've given to people that you have no personal connections to. wow nice pics you sent, very impressive. i am wondering why you are dismissive about the roto grower. you said it is too labor intensive? I am dismissive because it represents itself as easy but in fact its easy only when operated by a highly advanced grower... a beginner would not be able to leave this system alone for 5 minutes... does that mean i can't leave the house for a few days? at best i am a beginner with a half brain....if this machine does everything for me i don't mind the cost. its not about the money, its about being new and you don't have the basics to use this system ....analogy: when u were young u had a bike first (hence promix + pots), then when you grew up u bought a car (this would be a ebb & flow system)... but you did not start driving a Ferrari (the roto grow) when you were 12 cause you would have wrecked it ... i can look into building my own but i am not very skilled with the carpentry trade. i seen it has two 1000 watt bulbs can you insert that into a single outlet without burning down the apartment? no, in the pictures it probably is powered by a power board off of a dryer or stove plug, oh and i want to go on record with everyone else make sure you do not go to this website http://www.homegrown-hydroponics.com/ they are a scam they lead you into believing that they are a real company please do not bother with them. if u know what to look for they have some cool and useful stuff ... but in general I can not fault them for trying to stay in business ... to stay in business they need to sell the expensive useless crap to gullible customers (as sad/unfortunate as this sounds).. that's why I could not make money when I had my hydro store (stupid honesty) .... if they only sold pots and promix they would go out of business ... and its a tough business....

hello i have a question about grow boxes. i want to get a commercial size for clones and for mothers do you know a good place to pick one up? i have tried looking online but have found that the businesses are ripping people off. do you have friends or know people that i can pick up from? I know no one in the GTA who even stocks this crap i also was interested in picking up a hydroponic wheel ( if i can't find a grow box )the reason for all the machines is because i have to travel here and there and would like something that can maintain my plants while i am not there. thanks... the hydro wheel (in the link I do not see the yield they claim, I see 25% improvement on yield tops which is great but hardly a revolution) is the most difficult and labor intensive thing I have yet to see.... the 1st generation of the thing was a bust and it took two years to re-design, now version 2.0 is being tested and ... its still labor intensive as hell.... I am not a big fan of it..... as to the clone box, unfortunately if you want to buy one it means you don't really know how to go about making one yourself.... a box consists of a box and a fluorescent lights, that's it... the parts you can pick up yourself in a hardware store, and if you buy a ready-made box you will be paying for someone's' labor to put it together for you..... oh and they are too expensive and they promise way too much... that's why they can be found as used equipment on sale (still too bloody expensive)....
hey, you can buy a mh conversion bulb to go with you hps ballast, runs about 100 bucks, cheers! true, but it is ok to have MH in bloom, MH produces more THC so its prudent to have both spectrums of light at the same time...
EVERYONE ~ Stress causes hermies in clones. There is no way to miss a male if you are growing in a closet. The difference is too obvious to miss. In a field of 100+ it can be miss rather easily. I've many times collected seeds on/off these clones, they are all female and when grown many times appear when young to be exact copies of the mother. Why does everyone hate the hermie seeds they find? You pay 5-15$ per for feminized seeds, yet, when you produce/discover them you go bonkers! The pro's take the pollen from these hermies that they cause to appear, and hand pollinate other clone mothers. I've used the seeds produced many times and love them and what they've produced. If i use the seeds produced by one of these hermies, grow it, get more seeds from that hermie, those seeds will be weaker, less potent, and will carry the strain down. My advice, go ahead and experiment with them for one generation. They are, for me, like growing clones from seeds. Talk about stabilized. Growing very close, touching, heat, dry, humid, everything and anything that stresses the female plant leads to hermies. For those that do not want them, no matter what, write back and maybe we can work on that. N.C. feminized seeds are a product of taking pollen from a hermie female that produced male flower and then pollinating a fresh/new female with this pollen... this combination will produce zero seeds when bloomed... if a feminized plant produces seeds (and was not stressed) then it was it was made of hermies female that produced male flower and pollinating itself.... those seeds will produce hermie seeds
Mark, had high females this time so I've had to expand. Using a 1000w hps, can easily add 400w mh, I also have a 400w hps ballast, but no bulb. ok to add the mh, or should I go buy a bulb for the hps? NOTE: you can not put an HPS bulb into MH ballast or vice versa, MH bulb needs MH ballast and HPS bulb needs HPS ballast.... funny thing it may work but it can also blow up the bulb/ballast so don't.... if you simply want to add the 400W to the space with 1000W light then its ok so long as you can maintain the temperatures.... MH ballast in bloom should produce more THC so of course its ok to use MH in bloom....
Hey Mark, picked up 10 NLxB in January, here are some numbers (first grow)- 600w hps, 8/10 sprouted, 4/8 female, dried 10.5oz, pretty decent quality, harvested a little early. A couple of follow ups- 1) they all have seeds, some more than others, is there any way to tell now which one turned, or if its a genetic hermi? If they turned, will the clones also (cut prior to flower)? I may grow 2 at a time. I vegged 5.5 wk, so they were huge, lots of touching late veg all through bloom, even with only 4 plants, could crowding have caused them to turn? 2) I haven't really been taking good care of the clones, more of a side project, need to pay attention to the flowers, the clones have been under flouro, small pots, pretty scraggly, small short leaves, occasional new growth, no secondary branching. Do you think they are viable, ie, I'm sure I can bring them back under hps, but will months of neglect affect the final product, should I start fresh with new seeds. Thanks again. You answered your own question... stress makes them go hermie.. overcrowding can makes them hermie... heat stress can make them go hermie.. if you combine both heat stress and over crowing its almost guaranteed to have seeds.... most likely if you took a clone prior to bloom then those clones/plants should be 100% female, since its stress that creates hemies, those fresh clones should be ok, since stress in VEG is not the same as stress in Bloom, so long as you recover them before flowering... I don't think you need new seeds since if you over crowd as before you will have the same results, so you should fix this first... the seeds you produced are hermie so pretty useless....
hey mark is it possible for a plant to start showing ripeness and ready to harvest signs at just 37 days into bloom??? i have 2 plants in my closet out of 8 that are showing those traits...ice and supergirl...weird man...thanks for your help.. not impossible, but most likely this is a sign of stress... over feeding or heat stress can turn the hair dark early on and full you that its ready, leaching it can help but it will not make hair white again.... IF you did not overfeed or stress her out then it would have to be a factor of strain... but neither ice nor super girl is 37 days bloom... more like 56 days...
I have a few diagnosis's and they change the pill's I take all the time because most times after taking them for months feel worse or like its not working. I am institutionalized, suffer from post traumatic stress disorder, depression and bad anxiety. Now with my record and anxiety I find it hard to trust people or end up associating and hanging out where I don't want to be. (risk of going back in) Is there a certain Dr. or clinic or counselor I can see to possibly help me get it legal? I lost my wife and 4 year old son trying it the "other" way. wrong places wrong time, too many times. Happy Girl you don't need to post this. Is there a difference in a 1000watt 240volt/120volt. Does one consume more power then the other or is one better than the other. What is the difference? Overall power cost is the same but when you run a ballast at 240 you decrease the load/strain on your wires/boards... this allows you in turn to have more lights.... 120V consumes 10 or 11 amps and 240 consumes 5 or 6 amps.. but you are still "consuming" 1000W and paying for it... an average household circuit is 15 amps and can handle 1 single 1000W light at 120V + some small fan... as you can see it consumes about 11 amps out of 15 available, so you have ONLY 1 amp to spare as you can only use 80% of a particular circuit (80% of 15 amps is 12 amps)... in order to have ballast at 240V you need special power board to plug it into a stove or a dryer... PLEASE make sure all of it comes from a reputable hydroponics provider as we are talking about electricity so its obviously dangerous..... and you can NOT build it yourself....
Mark ~ What's up with L.E.D lighting? Have you tried, or seen it tried with pot? The prices have come way down in the last two years. I've seen articles touting the power of LED lighting and the advantages over conventional MH, HPS lighting. I've, as of yet, failed to see a final product produced. Are the buds top notch, hard, thick, dense with the "nine coats" we love to see? Finally, where in Canada can one find LED lights for sale? I hate bringing things through customs. I've seen Growl LED Inc. and Hid Hut(both USA Based) advertising in High Times. It all looks very good to me and i would seriously consider changing over next year. What's your call here? Nine Coats ~ The major problem is "penetration" of light.... if a 1000W can reach 5 feet down (or so), a 400W can do 3, may be 4 feet down... fluorescent light can do 1 foot max.... LED can BARELY do 1 foot... so its not that the lights are "bad" its just that they can never every grow anything bigger then what you can grow under a fluorescent lights.... Soooooo if LED were supposed to replace HID, I will wait for the next generation... because from what I see its like downgrading to a fluorescent light... this has been confirmed but other growers... LED rock when it comes to vegging small plants but for blooming plants they suck....

In the past, in the few times i've attempted cloning, the "snip" was done under water to keep from getting the air bubble from blocking the passage. We lost our clone hook and I'm going to begin to do what i should have been doing all along , , cloning. These clone guys are something else. Working with them is many times like working with some young starlet. The most important thing to remember for the younguns is the pot IS A WEED , , , not an orchid. I've seen it growing out from between the crack in a sidewalk! We, trying to help, or boost, or improve out plants are the biggest enemy to the plants. Trust in Jah, choose the best genetic for your needs, and relax some, have some fun with it, trust in it, and as thus we will be successful. I moved on to cookies and make a very very strong batch that only I can consume.... this is the only way I find to get that proper experience.... and I did travel .. hey mark, ive been using this forum for my last grow of blueberry skunk, using all your advice, i have to say using the promix, hps, pb pro bloom+ veg, and dnf regime has yielded 10 ounces good under a 400W, from 6 plants. i find the high provides a mental buzz and restlessness, where i cant sit still or sleep. this is no way bad, but highly motivating i find. conversation and motor are not impaired. I have smoked pot for 3 years for bi-polar disorder, depression and social anxiety. i smoked about 5 grams a day from dawn till dusk, and do not feel fatigued. I also manage to go for long 10k runs right after smoking a session. I was curious: what are your experiences with this strain? what are others experiences? Lastly, i cannot sleep after smoking this pot, can you recommend an indica strain that people find puts them to sleep? i know it is subjective but maybe even a genetic line its both really ? thanks bro!...everyone responds to cannabis differently... I can not sleep after smoking it for an hour, but after an hour sleep comes easy... It is unfair to "recommend" a strain, in many ways its the same like with anti-depressants, you wont know which one works until you try it (a bit unfortunate).. I can try to recommend a type of strain may be... you may be looking for something more sativa if you like being active during the day ... BUT if you want to still grow an indica and sleep , may be the solution is to let it bloom a week (or two) longer... when you bloom longer then recommend the plants produce more of a sleepy buzz.... I think this applies to all strains....

This marijuana was a sativa with long buds, not that dense (again, could be any sativa). The pistils were light brown to yellow, and the buds were light green, totally covered with trichromes in every nook and cranky. The field were it grows was filled with 8-12 ft plants, male and female. the bud was seeded but still a wicked smoke. i dont know if these plants would look the same grown in british columbia but the heritage could be similar, these plants had no smell, just a hint of grass, but stinks to heaven when its being smoked. tastes very slightly of peanut butter. I was in Negros Oriental and the local mountain gangs grow in the valleys and plateus between the mountains. Mark, The reason i posed the question to you about the central steam being used in cloning is simply that the center stem is hollow and rather large. Both are Sativa and have a huge "straw like" opening after cutting on a slant, ...this clone will root but it needs to have that hole "plugged" or filled with some powder, it will take a little longer to root but it will... it will NOT root if the hole has air in it... with an oil free razor blade. Other cuttings, from other locations, have a solid stem that is much thinner. I've always just tossed the tops after snipping to cause a larger, bushier plant. I've always felt that it was a waste. I believe that you've done this many times and I'll get back after two weeks or so and tell you how it turned out. You prefer jells over powder? gel/liquid can go bad, powder never (stim root No.2) On another note,(sorry to put the youngsters to sleep) I'm crazy to learn about the genetics that's available to us from all sorts of suppliers. Is there any website that has described the histories and make-up of genetics starting back in the 70's? The histories of everything in the world can be studied, and as thus we learn. When i see the "seed boys" hucking their wears and using different letters and names of genetic as if we are all very hooked up , , , , I am not. I remember getting the Seed Bank's first catalogue back in the early 70's. There were about 10 choices to pick from. Do you remember the dude that started the Seed Bank? What a tale! From there it has grown into several 1000's strains. Is there any way to follow how it spread? Mark, I'm searching for an old genetic that has to be 15 years old and comes from the west coast of BC Canada. I've come across it three times, every time the taste has blown my mind. "That's BC bud man." is what I've heard from others. I'm nuts to find it, grow it and then SMOKE IT. Has an old school "Thai taste" , , I've seen it grown one time(from clone)and it is definitely Indica. No skunk smell. No fruity taste. Ever smell bread being baked? Hi Mark. I have myotonic dystrophy a form of ms and also hep c and arthritis. Also I am anemic. When I smoke it doesn't kill the pain 100% but it does numb it. If I could get better medical weed for the pain instead of the street corner stuff it would be better than trying to obtain something else. I have tried to get my doctor to sign the forms but he does not beleive in it. He does not believe it is a form of pain killer. He is old school in his 60's. Hi Mark, I just started budding some of my plants a couple days ago. i am still using PB pro bloom + DNF. i recently bought some high phorphuros bat guano, and was given a free sample of AN carboload. The women at the store recommended i start applying guano to the top of the soil every 2 weeks, and apply carbo load with every watering. All the while still using Bloom plus Bud fortifier. What do you recommend? In theory these substances are harmless if used in moderation (pay attention to the label as they are often written for people growing with 1000W and if you have a 400W the recommended dosage may overfeed the plants and thus kill them, so go easy at first).... The guano I am not sure is necessary at all as the DNF is the same .. so watch the leafs for burns or use at lower level or just don't use it... carboload - I guess there is no harm in trying, I am not a big fan of it because I honestly can not see any difference, other then the "perception" of the grower (as in "I think it smells, feels, smokes better", but little proof)...
I've seen lots of info on cloning and get the drift of what is offered. I've never really seen anyone just snip the center top off a young plant, I do all the time, that's how you can bush her out and still use the clone for something say 24 inches tall, and clone from it. I'm sure it's possible, correct? yes Is there some taboo about snipping the top center piece? pinching the top (instead of cloning the top) is slightly less stressful, but its just a preference I want to top my plant so as to make it wider and shorter. I hate to just toss the top that i'm going to snip off. Later on, of course, taking cuttings from the lower and upper regions would give large numbers of cuttings. Got that. Thanks, Nine Coats
i have a 4x4 grow tent, what method would be the best to maximize harvest yield of that area(DW buckets, ebb flow, soil less) 600 watts will be used? thank you in advance I don't believe in water based hydroponics systems.. so i would recommend around 10 plants in 3 gallon buckets of promix or similar soil less dirt... for 600W needs 100 CFM minimum, 140 better CFM inline fan and passive intake...

I am growing in an ebb&flow system under 1000 w HPS. I am on the third week of blooming, for nutrients I use sensi bloom A and B, root excelerator ,B 52,F1 Fulvic, Carboload, Hygrozyme, and Big Bud with an EC around 1.4. My problem is after adding water PH adjusted to 5.6 and I assume its also at 1.4 EC when you add replacement water? between the weekly change of reservoirs my plants became to show stress and sign of look lock? up. lock up happens when you withdraw nutriments abruptly After every sign I have flushed with ~20% level of nutrients? or at 0% ? plants and reservoir with water at 5.6 PH. Now I am lost because I cannot pinpoint where the problem is. Any suggestions? Thanks for the feedback. PH changes when you expose water to cheap flimsy type of plastic ... that plastic releases something to change the pH ... I dont suppose you use cheap type of containers or reservoir... another reason .. plants when stressed release something through the roots that also changes the pH of water... its hard to pin point stress... changing the position of the light too frequently could do that (rare problem)...

Hey,me again. How`s it going? I've got more info, and questions. I mispoke earlier. The seeds were started in a cube tray, inch or 2 of dirt, and vegged outside (partial sun) for 2 weeks (longer than needed) I was waiting for my light (1000 W hortilux super hps. works great. Then transferred to 1 gallons. Day 1: watered with hose water, I let the water sit at least a day in a clean basin. Is it possible to let it sit too long? plants 1"-2" . Since then added 10-52-10, bio grow (seaweed and liquid) and epsom salts...epson salts may be used in bloom but I don't think its necessary in veg at all.. Should I add hydrogen peroxide? no Any tips? Watered twice, 90% then 25%. Day 14 pruned bottom 3rd, plants are 6"-9".Upped lights to 20/4 from 18/6. How much longer should I veg? Any guess at yeild? Humidity is 70% when watered. 55 when dry, temps a magically steady 28C with lights on,down to 22 at night. Should I turn off my fans? They go all day now. Low setting. Any and all advice greatly appreciated. Thanks :) ...I don't see any problems with your work..
Hi again, my problem was the outside plants were tall and skinny while the indoor were very bushy. And if I used them for replacements that late in flowering , they'd be lagging way behind and wouldn't have that SOG effect. So I stuffed all of them under the light, (same area) and they're catching up, but now very crowded. Am I missing something? ..it is very hard if not impossible to match outside grown plants with indoor plants.. outdoor has more space, light, air... but if there is no sunshine then its the opposite... looks like the plants you had outdoors lacked light because from your description they stretched.. (cloudy, rainy perhaps, etc.) Is there a better way to utilize SOG from seed? ...SOG done properly is done from clones and not from seeds... plants from seeds vary in size, from clones they are almost perfectly uniform...I want as many as possible because of the extra space after weeding out males. Do plants bush after flowering's induced? not really, when you flip to bloom, they behave as if they were in veg for 2 weeks, then they should stop growing and concentrate on blooming... Also, I started the light 2' away. Should I move it as they grow? 18 inches is optimum Do they stop growing taller if they hit there max light intensity?..yes, 2 weeks after starting bloom I love this site! More questions to come, I'm sure. Thanks. Keep up the good work. :) if its crowded now then it will be more crowded after you start bloom.. the more crowded they are the more males you should expect.... so its a dilemma, if you make space now while in veg you will have less plants (I would do this, keep the smallest and bushiest and toss the tallest plants) ... if you keep all of them and bloom and remove males later, chances are there will be more males (statistically speaking) because they are severely overcrowded... I would start a mother room and learn cloning...

I've sectioned off a 7' by 7' area in the basement with 6 mm light reflective poly.Grow area is a bit under 5' by 5', with 2 oscillating fans in opposite corners. I'm growing in pro-mix soil-less mix from seed,(white widow). I started 80 plants in 1 gallon pots. 60 under the light and 20 outside to replace males. I'm out of writing room, my questions will be in my next thread. :)

Hi Mark, When in the final week, is it alright to flush using a 400HPS after using a 1000HPS in the first 7 weeks of bloom? I only have the 2 lamps, and want to use the 1000 for my next batch. Thank You, Bernie Red...I'm a bit confused... you switched from 1000W to 400W for the last week of bloom? .. if true then you want to flush longer or start flushing sooner (like a week sooner)... also you may want to flush loner by 1/2 a week or so... when you switch like this you remove a lot of light and you run a risk of burning (as in overfeeding) them so more flushing is recommended....
hey mark i did trim the scrawny bottom leaves at the end of week 2 in bloom stage... was just wondering when or if its beneficial to trim the bottom scrawny leaves again at some point?? no, you may chose to trim a leaf here or there but in general you should only trim bottoms once and leave them alone afterwards... thanks
I bought ten Blueberry Skunk seeds from your seed bank. I planted five seeds and four of them grew into healthy 18" plants. I started the bloom cycle just over a week ago. Now I'm looking for signs of sex. I see white hairs growing in the nodes on only one of the plants. The other three plants are growing bunches of tiny balls upwards from the nodes. Two of those have flowers growing on the tops. I thought they were buds but they look like bunches of tiny balls too. I've been following your guide and growing them in a well-ventilated closet under a 400W HPS. I maintained the temperature below 30*C and the plants didn't touch during the vegetative stage. Now they're all over each other. Do I only have one female or is it too early to tell?..after the 2nd week you can be sure it is or is not a female... but it seems like you have 1 female... I am sorry

I have 2 plants in bloom they have been in the 12 hour cycle for about 4 weeks. I just noticed that they now have some sacks looking things growing in the bud. Kind of like a seed sack, but when I sqeeze one theres nothing in there. I did have a male when they were in bloom about a week and a half in but chopped it(I don't think it released any pollen). So I'm wondering if they were pollinated, are they hermi's, or is this natural? Please tell me this is natural I'm having shit luck. Thanks for the help.... it is ok to cut those balls off just in case these are male flowers... most likely these are not male flowers but who knows.....
some of my bulbs got drops of water on them during the last grow and now the residue is limiting some of the light getting out. what is the best way to clean it? can i wipe with a wet cloth and let dry? ... make sure the bulb is unplugged and cool....some special cleaner? thx....just like cleaning glass.. windex works
My question is not very simple, if one gets a prescription from a doctor, why would you bother applying for a permit when those that issue said permits are not practicing medicine accepting or refusing said application? they can NOT refuse to issue a permit yet they do often... we have to follow the law and they don't... it can be more then frustrating... Are we not giving the Government authority where they have none because they think they can claim said authority? exactly when in fact your own doctor is the one qualified to make this judgment not politicians. very true Should we not be keeping this right to refuse away from them that will whenever able refuse and slander Gods Herb.... the permit becomes VALID when the doctor signs it and NOT when Health Canada decides to benevolently issue your card... I was just wondering if there are any places in Toronto that buy seeds. I just tried growing last year, but the male got the female before I even knew what sex it was. Now I have hundreds of Sweet Tooth #3 seeds. I've also got a mix and match of others, but can't tell which they are. I only know they were all good smoke. I've got a couple plants started this year and so far, I've only had to pull three males to the 30 I planted...ask this guy
hey mark... when do plants stop growing in the bloom stage??? im at the end of my 3rd week.... thanks...under a 1000W they stop growing at the end of week 2... under 600W they can still grow in week 3... under a 400W they never really stop growing and can easily double and often triple in size, this is some-what normal as 400W is ~70% less then outdoor lights so the plants don't really grow but stretch after the 2nd week of bloom (stretching is like they desperately try to reach for the sun, grow would actually mean adding new leafs and getting bushier)
Hey folksss Im have license and moved into new place now what if the landlord discovers grow can i get the boot even though I have medical license from Canadian government setup is safely done and secured 100% effectively. thxxx ...... if you HAD a license before you moved in and DID NOT tell the landlord, he/she CAN kick you out.. because its your duty to tell them before you move in, so they can make an informed decision whether to accept you or not.... if you moved in and then got a brand new license (not a renewal) then they CAN NOT kick you out ... from experience if you have one light its rarely a problem, if you have 2 or more then they think you are a "grow-op"... sometimes offering to pay extra for power helps sometimes it does not....

hello...i cant not get my hands on pro-mix...would Hortibec Premium Nature Mix Soil NO be ok to use?...if not what , soil would u recommend ...no hydroponics store in your area?.. they would stock promix BX or HP or Sunshine Mix No.4.. these products are generally called Triple Mix soil... sold by Bail rarely by smaller quantities.... if you can not find it by name.. ask for Triple Mix Soil (for your outdoor lawn) ..check if its made of Peat Moss + Vermiculite + Perlite (there may be other stuff listed but these are the 3 things that make up Triple Mix)

this question goes to all them indoorgrowers. my question is how much power can one person use ever month and not raise any suspision with hydro company. I know some people use around 15 to 30 KWH everyday and they not growers. growing with 4 x 1000watt lights would be around 90 KWH every day is that too much power for a house to use. how much power would it take for the hydro company to suspect you as a grower. anyone with any anwswers speak up. .....a single person uses equivalent of a 1000W in electricity.. so if a house can easily support (lets say) 4 people then you can grow 3 x 1000W + 1 person or 2 x 1000W + 2 people or 1 x 1000W + 3 people....
So I didn't say but do you even plant outdoors in a 20liter buckets or it doesn't matter a plant is a plant no matter where you plant it.thanks..you would use the bucket IF the soil was no good for growing.. in general you want the roots to have as much space as possible so planting them outdoors without buckets is best... but if the soil sucks then use a bucket but you remove the bottom of the bucket just in case the roots want to go outside into the surrounding soil...
if i were to start growing late(now) what strand would be best to start late?..you are not 2 late yet... end of June is too late... summertime buddha is the easiest one outdoors...

Just wondering I've planted my plants in 20liter buckets so I'm just wondering am I losing plant size by haveing them in such a small bucket "grow space" ...since this is the biggest pot I use I don't think it adds anything to have them even bigger, I mean technically it should help to have a bigger pot/container but realistically 20 L. bucket is sufficient or is a bucket fine I mean I've had 100gram plants grown in a bucket before but just wondering if I could be growing bigger?? and just wondering if anyone can tell me is shit,shit or is sheep better then horse , chicken or cow if so should you mix no matter what you use with black earth 50/50 thanks I honestly don't know, as I only used bat shit and pigeon shit and never at 50/50 mix... that seems like too much .... After a few silly mistakes I then decided to go balls out on safety in my grow room. In my search I came across this amazing product (see link above...I am not selling nor have nothing to do with it). Spoke with the company for an hour about it and this is how it could be applied to our grow rooms: This unit allows remote sensing and wireless alerting to you of a problem via text message, email, or phone call (the machine has a cell SIM card in it). Then you can even reply with a command via text message like "turn off power" and the system will remotely do it without you being there. many sensors and many responses can be programmed. So you buy the unit for $300 and a bunch of sensors for $10 - $50 each depending on what they sense. For mine I'm getting smoke, water, power, door opener. Then you can set controls for your commands from a cell phone to do things. Like if smoke is detected I can get a text. If I'm not close I can opt to send a text back that releases a tank of CO2 to stunt a fire, or shut off my main power, or phone next door neighbor or police if smoke is detected (whatever i want). If the flood sensor detects a water leak from an overflow, cracked reservoir or some other water problem, you can reply on your cell to activate a pump, shut off a water supply, or notify a neighbor/landlord. If the door sensor goes off meaning someone entered your unit, you can trigger the web cam on your computer to start recording stills or clips and have them sent to you instantly on your cell for viewing. If it's a rip off attempt you call the cops, if just your sister popping by then don't do anything. Very cool and for $500 in total you can have a really bad ass system like this. Mine is in the mail. Once I have it set up I will post pics and a tutorial on how to set one up. Consider a simple thermostat kit from Green Air Products runs about this much you can see how this is an amazing deal. Health Canada can't say shit to me.
have a marsh on some property in the minden area (3 hours north). since i can't make it up there to check on them regularly, how close to the marsh should they be for easy water? like in the soil just a few feet from edge, or farther back and elevated a bit? in a perfect world 3 meters from the edge of water and 1 meter above the water level also i hear lots of people grow up there but i find it cold. dropped 3 in over the weekend and the weather was normal, but overnight temps got down to 4 degrees..still too early to put them out for that far north? will i have to harvest early? it is a bit too early but technically cannabis should be able to withstand 3 or 4 degrees C .... not negative temperatures but so long as they are positive they should be ok... mind you the plant should also be at least 5 inches tall when taken outside

Hey Mark, I am jus about ready to put my babies (outside) i have started them for a few weeks now they are looking healthy, unfortunately i am using the BB skunk strain and the white widow.. thats just what i had so i decided to give it a try... now do you think this will be a big deal strain wise in the outdoors? when do you think they will be done flowering? i am also using 5 gallon buckets with holes drilled at the bottom with crushed gravel and a bit of river rock for drainage to grow in as well filled to the top with moisture control soil.. sounds like you took care of them well any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks...they will do just fine outdoors, depending on weather they should be ready around late September .. if its wet may be early October..... those strains were tested outdoors by so many people you will be fine...

Different guides say completely different things - one says as much as every hour, another - no need at all, just naturally when I open the door for watering... Heat is not an issue. Thanks, comer..this is the thing.. if your temperatures are within the 22-28C with your lights ON then you need NO ventilation.. then I would assume you use fluorescent lights... the entire purpose of ventilation is to remove heat...... HID lights produce lots of heat, fluorescents do not .... I see it this way.. if you have 400W or less, you may need a fan with 50 CFM of power, a basic $29 bathroom fan will do... 1000W needs inline 140 CFM fan.. CFM = Cubic Feet per Minute.. in my guide I state that even a 400W light can (Not should, just Can) be ok without any ventilation (for that true ghetto setup) because most closets can naturally ventilate even a 400W type of light.. often people ventilate to control where the smell goes.. but for smell you don't need any specific CFM ratings... and you do not need to "replace" air just for the sake of fresh air... air is moved only for heat or smell
Can you explain why feminized seeds make bad moms. feminized are hermaphrodites essentially thus weak ... hermaphroditic genes make for bad clones.. as in the clones succumb to minor variations in temperatures and humidity.. so the clones are weak, weak clones make weak plants If using normal seeds what is the best process of taking a mother. Should you clone the potential moms and speed flower to determine sex, telling you if your mothers are not fathers?...not sure I know what you are asking but .. at first I would take a clone off of a potential plant and flower the clone.. if the clone is a female, the plant it came from is a female, if its a male, the plant it came from is a male... Grow group through process and revert moms from flower to veg? that's the least efficient way to grow.. its far better to take fresh clones and veg those.. to re-veg a harvested plant you would need minimum 2 months Any other ways I haven't heard of?
I am totally fed up with this place...previously I had ordered roughly 5 varieties, most of them were great, (and two were WAY late, I had to call three weeks later, and he hadnt sent them yet)except two strains were total duds (all male one, no germination other). This guy hardly ever answers the phone...finally, I decided to give him one more go, calculated my order online, and mailed it to him by postal money order, I finally called and he told me quite snidely that he just mailed the whole package back...WHAT KIND OF MAIL ORDER BUSINESS DOESNT EXCEPT POSTAL MONEY ORDERS!!?? true we don't do mail order.. with a visa I can tell you are 18+.. in person I can check you are 18+... money order I can not Nevermind, I answered my own question...whis rinky dink hole...I really want "Happy girl Hydroponics" showing up on my credit card bill...or wrose yet, have to drive to toronto when I could get better quality seeds from seedbanks out west, WHO DO TAKE money orders...PS There is a money order icon RIGHT ON the website.. lame good luck..... rather then getting all pissed off just please shop somewhere else
Hey Im trying to determine sex on a plant thats about 18'' now. I took a couple clones and put them under 12/12 but they didnt show any signs after 3 days and wilted away on the 4th day. they probably wilted because of incorrect environmental issues, not because they got switched to 12/12 Do they need 18/6 I would give them 3 days of 18/6 at first then switch to 12/12, clones prefer hot (29-32C) and humid (65%) lighting to start whats the best way to take a clone. I've been vegging my plant for 54 days and i want to switch to bloom but wanna make sure i can get proper clones it can take 2 weeks for the clones to show sex so be patient..

Mark I live here in southern Ontario, and im growing your G13xBuddha outdoors, it says that it is a 9 week flowering period, does this mean it won't be ready until late november??,can it finish any earlier... or will I have to harvest this plant early? I really only bought it because I love Sativas and its lack of smell is ideal for my conditions...so am I fucked or what??? fucked why? this strain is only 1 week longer then 99% of all the seeds out there... harvest is at the end of September... so if yours is 1 week later who cares? BTW bloom outdoors begins June 20th ... when I say 9 weeks, its a suggestion (outdoors) .. because weather can change this date... example, if you get 3 weeks of rain mid August you wont be able to harvest on time no matter what so everyone then would let them stay in the ground longer, no matter what strain... so outdoors is all a bit of a game....

Im starting to grow 3 plants in my closet, I want to know what would be the best wattage for it, 250 or 400 because its a bigger wattage 400W will yield more then a 250W, personally 250W is almost the same cost as the 400W so I would usually go for the 400W . And how much would they cost for just the bulb and the lamp to plug it into?....
I would like to know which is better: intensity or distribution of light. Like if you have an 8x8 space and up to 2500 watts of power available for flowering, would it be better to have 2 x 1000 watt bulbs and maybe a 400 watt extra, or 4 x 600 watts. The 600 watt bulbs would give better distribution, but the 1000 watt bulbs would give larger buds and be able to penetrate lower (plants are over 3 feet tall). Which would you recommend for my situation?...on paper 4 x 600W would be better but in practice the 1000W lights will yield more... the 600W lights yield more when you are really really good... because the plants need to be smaller and fed slightly less... the 1000W yield more because its just easier for beginners or moderates... so unless you are really really good stick with the 1000Ws'
so my veg room is getting a little overcrowded so i want to put about 5 plants outdoors. i don't really have time to tend to them much (maybe 3 - 5 times over the summer). i have a nice little space near a small river so the soil should be good. my plants are bubba kush and about 6 weeks old and just over a foot tall (i know they are lagging). would they be okay to put out now or is it still too cold?...its supposed to be ok now, but there is a frost coming if you are anywhere near Barrie, Ontario.. but in general its supposed to be warm enough to take them out now also, if they are in 6 inch pots now with promix can i just dig a hole like 5 - 10 feet back from the water and plant it? will it grow without much tending to by getting nutrients from the local soil once roots leave promix? tthx.. sure... in theory YES, in practice who knows... the danger is not just due to lack of water, there is potential problems with animals or people stealing... that's why who knows....

First can a hermie pollinate other plants in the room. yes, definitely, on a good side the pollinated plants will create true feminized seeds, BUT the original hermie plant will only create hemie seeds Secondly,I am cloning for the first time. What should the length of the cuttings be? from 1 to 5 inches, the newer you are at this the bigger the clone, so try 4 to 5 inches Thanks in advance for your expertise.
Hey Mark, growing your blueberry skunk from seeds. have sexed the plants and have the girls in 16 days of bloom. I have separated the males from the females.....made clones from all 10 etc.etc. I want to pollinate 1 or 2 branches, in case I have to make a hospital trip and lose my strain. when is the best time to apply pollen to a few of the branches. 3rd week of bloom is best but in the 4th week is ok as well Thank you. all 10 seeds popped, 7 females!!!!!!
just wondering if anyone uses polymer water crystals in there out side soil mix a teaspoon for every 1 liter of dirt and they will work and whats the best way to keep your plants short ..read the link but it only applies for when the plants are in veg state, not in bloom or is the best thing to just let them grow as nature intended them to grow thanks. because you are a beginner you should just let them grow naturally
Thanks for all the answers last time round. I have a few more now that I've rethunk some of the challenges of my space. Realistically I dont have the room to split into two separate grow spaces, 8'Hx5'Wx1.5'D. My goal is to have a nice grow space, as well as have a space to keep a mother or two, and get my clones going. Both need to be in the same room for security reasons. I think my best option to accomplish this is to construct a grow box for the Moms and babies and put it on the shelf of the grow room. Line it up with T5s, install the splitter you recommendedfor venting, and just let the inline circulate the air. If you agree with this, will T5s keep my Mom happy? yes, 80 Watts of power is enough to have 2 mothers I am thinking the more the better so I'd line the walls and top with them. Will they keep my clones happy long enough to move them to the full veg room? I use 40W for clones, 80W is for a mother or two What is the min dimensions you would need to have two moms and a line up of clones, maybe 6 or so, taking into consideration the size of the room working with. Mark I reasently bought 10 G13xbuddahs from u, im growing outdoor and planted them like 13 days ago straight from seed, I've been giving them water every 2-3 days, since only 3 have sprouted, should i just wait longer cuz i thought 13 days seemed a bit much... they probably will not sprout, this is how you should have started them first, the way you tried to sprout them is very unreliable
hi mark, my blueberry skunk are in the 10th week of flowering and but the top 1/5th of the main cola is still developing with white pistils, can i cut now? or should i wait till a little bit longer until the top portion fills out a bit more? cut now, its an 8 week strain so she is ready
mark, thank you so much. you always help fill in those gaps of understanding for me. so a sativa should always be trained to grow low to keep yield up and indica should never. got it. but what about topping? can this be done to either or is indica better for it?...topping can be done to both, but sativa can be topped more often, indica usually only once, twice may be lastly, super cropping (the severe kinking but not breaking of the main cola or colas). can this be done at any time or it best only at a certain time?..only in veg.. and usually but not only 1 week before going into bloom better for sativa or indica? both i have some in flower and some in veg and want to try it. my plants in flower are 20 days in and show small buds - can i bend one or would it stress it too much now? bending is ok, cutting/topping is not your help is appreciated.
hi, i am trying to combat the losses associated with standard growing (chopping bottom third of branches near beginning of bloom). i understand the reasoning (not getting enough light),..yes, but also when you cut off the lower parts the top buds become bigger/fatter/denser... the plant "wastes" its energy on lower branches, once you remove them all the energy goes to the top buds... but that's still a third of the plant! this is a good and proven theory but personally I remove far far less then 1/3 (may be 1/5?).. I find yield overall is better when you don't go too crazy on trimming, even if the buds are fluffier. I'm ok with slightly fluffier bud if it means more yield..so i want to try and make the best of everything and started low stress training on a stringy sativa. what i found is that i can essentially make it grow only sideways. every time a branch pops up i let it grow for a week, then tye it back down making the canopy even wider. i want to bring this plant into bloom now it looks like i should get pretty much perfect coverage of all parts of the plant. would there be any down side to doing this? with sativa what you are doing is a "must" because otherwise a sativa would be too tall and yield little..... if this was an indica the buds would be much smaller but there would not be more of them overall ... it would be so-called pop corn bud (size)... without adding more, for an indica this is a no-no would the buds each be smaller then if i were to grow straight up? is my yield likely to be comparable or greatly increased? you are trying to maximize the yield (for a sativa) so may be the individual bud size will be a little smaller but the yield will be much better... I must note that I would not grow a sativa any other way... if you simply let a sativa grow tall without any controls .. they just keep getting taller and taller and taller and yield crappy... thanks man
Hey there, I set up a Hydro drip system and had a question about nutrients. I have everything I need but am not sure how long the nutrients will last. For example if I have a 10 L resovoir and have 2 Plants, how long until I change the nutrient solution. I know a meter would be best but I'm broke:{ any suggestions? Thanks ...water in a reservoir is good for one week.. you can add an extra week if you put a bubbler or a water pump in it to move the water around thus oxygenating it... cheap bubbler can be $10
Is a 30"W 20"D 72"T closet enough space for a 250-400W HID?, or would a T5 system better suit 1-2 plants in such a small space? looking to yield 1-2 oz. thanks Mark! it will be hard to get 1 or 2 ounces from 1 or 2 plants under a T5.. not impossible but hard... a 250W should probably be better over all for desired yield and easy of use.. 400W should fit BUT with ventilation (more costs and tinkering) and it will/should yield around 4 ounces (plus).... I'd go for a 250W MH ballast (best for veg and bloom)... HPS would be more expensive and hurt you in veg...
thanks mark iv uped the nutes and they are doing wonderfully i have actually brought it up to 75% nutes and spotting has stopped also i now see the f1 vigor i was looking for ...just remember that giving them 75% now still means you should lower the level every 2nd or 3rd watering (down to 50%).. just so you wont over feed them
Hi Mark, first time growing SOG method.WWXXX. 4 years experience growing.1000w hps in promix.vegged 3 weeks and 3 weeks into bloom. alot of stretching from "touching stress" a nice even canopy of green,just the same.I have very large fan leaves that are covering other bud locations.....I am about to trim the bottom 1/3 of the bottom of plants good idea...no light no light means no bud, so it should go...I know you dont like to trim any fan leaves that receive light but in a SOG growing method should I trim some of the higher large fan leaves to promote more light into the "other" bud sights? ..no BUT yes, if you stick to cutting some fan leafs and NOT ALL of them (lets say.. 1 fan leaf per plant) and if you are very strategic about it then yes.. but in general you really want to avoid trimming fan leafs, I would actually cut off the branch that is covered by the fan leafs rather then cut off the fan leaf itself... BUT in SOG system because you have so many plants cutting a leaf here and there will not like damage it or anything if you do some fan leaf trimming...... Thanks Man.
About 4 weeks in to Veg a plant has what looks like round swelling right where the branches connect w/ the main stem. Is this an early male pollen sac? or is it still too early to tell? Thankyou! you can not really tell (when in veg) whether they are male, its possible to spot females when you are experienced (and even then its not a 100% thing)... but the sack you are refereeing to is not necessarily a male... it can be, don't get me wrong but in the end you can not be sure sure, to be sure sure they need to be at least 2 weeks into bloom...
Hey Mark great site. I have an elicent 8" fan that has bearing and shaft problems. Wobbles too much. Can parts still be bought for this italian made fan as I have noticed the motor part of it is exactly the same as the quebec made votex's. Does anyone know how to fix it or should I just try and take it apart and try for myself ? Or scrap it and buy another, hate wasting still servicable machinery. Thanks for any help. ...these things are precisely aligned so my best recommendation is to simply get a new fan... I know no one who successfully fixes these things... it sucks but getting a new one is better and safer...
hey mark is it ok to put clones in promix rather then rockwool? yes, but you have to water it like every day probably and the rooting will take 3 or 4 times longer (a month may be)... it should work but its not the optimum idea...
First off, I am AMPED right now after digging into your page. So many questions answered with solid info, specific watering amounts and techniques on how to tell, soil(less) recommendations, and nutrients. Brilliant! I am a noobie who is looking to get their first crop underway. As I prep the grow room and buy a few things here and there in cash, I start to think about my end goals with my space. Ideally I would love to have separate designated Veg and Bud rooms in my 4'L x 10'H x 3'D closet. This way I can grow a beautiful mother and have new children every couple months. So my questions. If I provide a two level space and I am planning on rocking a 309 Elicent inline from the top level out into the attic ..if its a 400W then its ok, if its a 1000W the humidity created from the light can cause mold in the attic.. its better to vent physically outside.. with a carbon filter, 12" oscillating fans on both levels, will the bottom level get enough ventilation? if the smaller closet is a fluorescent (veg/mother room) it should be ok..if its an HID light... it may not be ok in the summer Is there a way to create light leak proof, air move
